Tony McCarthy didn’t start out with a plan to teach, but found his calling after working several odd jobs which included 25 years as a dealer in the gaming industry. Mr. McCarthy decided to return to college and earned a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics in 2007 followed by a Masters Degree in Education from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA. He moved back to Las Vegas in 2010 to be near his family and to enjoy the beautiful weather in Nevada.
Mr. McCarthy was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. He is married and has two grown children who both live in Las Vegas and work for the same casino. He also has two cats name Rhett and Scarlett, named after the main characters in “Gone with the Wind.”
In his leisure time,Tony is an avid reader and chess player and played for the first time this year in the National Open Chess Tournament held in Las Vegas.
This is Tony’s eighth year of teaching and first year at Bailey Middle School, and he is very excited for the opportunity to teach middle school math.
